PSV are set to splash out £12m to keep Malik Tillman at the club after the player hinted that is where his future lies.
And Rangers will bank a significant chunk of the windfall as part of their agreement with Bayern Munich. Tillman was a bright spark in an otherwise dreary season last term and Gers had initially agreed on an option to buy with Bayern. But the Bundesliga champions bought out of that, paying £1m up front as well as agreeing to pay up ten per cent of any future sale.
Given his impressive recent form with PSV, that’s starting to look like a shrewd bit of business from an Ibrox perspective. The USA international, still only 21, has been in impressive form this season with five goals and eight assists all in. He helped PSV gain a draw with Borussia Dortmund this week in the Round of 16 first leg tie in the Champions League, and looks set to turn the loan move into a permanent one next term.
PSV will pay around £12m to keep him and Gers are set to bank ten per cent of that to the tune of £1.2m. Tillman said: “For me, it always comes down to playing time or prospects. Hopefully next summer I will look back on the second season in which I regularly played at a high level after being at Rangers last year.
PSV’s Malik Tillman
“That’s how I would like to see it continue. The atmosphere is really good. We have grown really close as a team. Everyone has fun: the manager, the staff. We just like to play football, and you can see that in us.
“I also think we play very attractively. Peter Bosz has a precise plan, and we try to follow it. It’s all about intensity, with and without the ball.”
Tillman has flourished after recovering from injury and has scored five goals and made four assists in the 16 league appearances he’s made. He made 43 appearances for Rangers in all competitions and scored 12 goals.
