Amtrak is bringing back — and expanding — its seasonal service between New York City and the Berkshires this summer, and has started selling tickets for the picturesque ride.

The Berkshire Flyer, which first launched in 2022 and was brought back last year, will resume service on Friday, June 21, and operate on weekends through the Labor Day holiday weekend on Monday, Sept. 2, according to Amtrak. The train runs between New York City’s Moynihan Train Hall in Penn Station and Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

Trains depart New York City on Friday afternoons and arrive in Pittsfield later that night, stopping at stations on the Amtrak Empire Service train along the way, including Poughkeepsie and Hudson. The train then returns to the city on Sunday, leaving Massachusetts in the afternoon and pulling into Penn Station just before 8 p.m. The entire ride takes just over four hours.

New this year, the train will add a Sunday morning departure, leaving New York at 10:50 a.m. and arriving in Pittsfield at 3:15 p.m., according to the rail company.

“The Berkshire Flyer provides a comfortable and fun way for our guests to visit the Berkshire Mountains, all while enjoying unmatched scenery that you can only experience on America’s Railroad,” Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Eiliot Hamlisch said in a statement.  “Thanks to the support of our partners… Amtrak travelers can enjoy their journey and the local culture all summer long.”

On board, travelers can choose between coach seats, complete with reading lights and electric outlets, or business class seats, which feature extra legroom and a complimentary non-alcoholic beverage.

Each train also features free Wi-Fi and welcomes small pets to travel with you.

Beyond the Berkshire Flyer, Amtrak offers several other picturesque East Coast rides, including on the Adirondacks line, which features stops along the Hudson River, and to Burlington, VT, on the Ethan Allen Express.

Tickets for the Berkshire Flyer are now on sale on Amtrak.com, on the Amtrak app, or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL.
