Amazon allegedly violated strict data protection rules when collecting and using personal data.
In the European Union, Amazon is based in Luxembourg and is therefore primarily subject to the Luxembourg regulator CNPD. The case in question has been going on since 2019, when a French privacy rights protection organization filed a complaint.
There were recently reports that the American company was facing a hefty monetary penalty. The decision on the fine is dated July 16, but Amazon is only now making it public. The company says the allegations are unfounded. Amazon therefore plans to appeal.
