Ally McCoist goads Chris Sutton over Rangers John Beaton theory as he makes hilarious Celtic 'conspiracy' claim

Asia's Tech News Daily

Bullish Ally McCoist turned the tables on on Chris Sutton’s claim that referee John Beaton favours Rangers.

Match officials have been the big talking point in the Scottish Premiership after big calls during Hibs clash with Gio van Bronckhorst’s side and as Celtic hosted Hearts.

Ryan Kent was tripped in the box by Ryan Porteous at Easter Road and Beaton pointed to the spot in the closing stages of the clash.

That led to Kemar Roofe slotting home the decisive penalty in the capital.

Back in Glasgow, Kyogo Furuhashi’s winner against the Jambos has been debated with the lineman deciding the Japanese was onside.

On BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra, Sutton was on the offensive as he questioned whistler Beaton’s decision to award Rangers a penalty.

He said: Did you not think Ryan Kent was on his way down?

McCoist was having none of it, commenting: “No, I watched it from behind the goal, and Ryan Porteous absolutely catches him and takes him down.”

Sutton chimed in: “Brother Beaton.”

McCoist: “He’s a yard and a half away, not like the linesman at Celtic Park. John Beaton is right in front of the play. It’s a difficult decision and he got it right, absolutely spot on.”

When Currie brings it back to the Beaton quip, McCoist bit back: “I thought Chris might go down this road, and I checked up in the last five or six years John Beaton has given more penalties to Celtic than Rangers.

“Now, I’m not sure if there is a conspiracy theory here, but he’s given Celtic more penalties then Rangers.”

Sutton, laughing: “What about red cards?”

McCoist: “I didn’t check that, but I will tell you right now, I’m sure the red cards are the same.”

Sutton conceded: “I thought it was a penalty, but that Kent was on his way down and looking for it. What I would say about John Beaton is you don’t see a referee run to the away support and celebrate…”

McCoist, laughing: ‘That’s poor! If you’re going to be like that the only thing about the linesman at Celtic is he should have got in the box and finished it!”

However, McCoist rounded off: “We can argue about decisions here and there, but I honestly believe we have the honest officials, and of course they will make mistakes.

“They make mistakes at Celtic Park and they make mistakes all over the player. Lets not question their integrity, we are better than that.”
