Ana Obregon is in the spotlight once more after opening up about ex-husbandREAD MORE: Meet Ana Obregon: Spanish socialite who sparked a WAG war by claiming she shared a bed with David Beckham has controversially become a mother again at 68 via surrogate - 3 years after losing her son to cancer

Spanish socialite Ana Obregon, who is no stranger to controversy, is in the spotlight once more, after being asked to give the proclamation of the festivities of the Virgin of Peace in Alcobendas – a week long event celebrating the areas patron saint with a week of festivities with week of cultural, gastronomic, musical and religious events festivities.

Ana Obregon is well known thanks to the controversy surrounding her personal life, which, among other things, saw her become a mother around three years ago at the age of 68 – using the sperm of her dead son Aless, who died from cancer at the age of 27.

Her son’s father was the nephew of King Juan Carlos – Alessandro Lecquio who was still technically married to model Antonia Dell’Atte when she initially got together with him before their ill-fated relationship which later ended.

Now the pair have run in again, recently exchanging words after Ana accused Alessandro of never supporting his son financially (claims he denied vigorously). When she was asked how she about her ex-husband due to the arguments over finances, she gave a perhaps unexpected answer.

Ana said: ‘I love Alessandro very much. Look, Alessandro is the father of my son and we will always be united by our son and by the memory of our son and out of respect for our son because our son is what he was most excited about.

‘In any marriage that is separated, the children suffer a lot because they want to see their father with their mother and Aless was most excited to see us together so I know he is watching us, because of him we will always be together,’ she said.

Ana was also asked if Alessandro would ever act like the grandfather to her daughter – also called Ana – she said she would not be speaking about that.

She added that she ‘always respects’ the decisions of those people she loves.

Ana, who has lived in Alcobendas for many years, has experienced an eventful life, after being born in in Madrid in March 1955 to parents Antonio and Ana Garcia.

Although her father eventually made his fortune via his construction company Jotsa, he initially left school at age of 12 and took a job cleaning pigsties.

According to Ana, who has not spoken much about her childhood, it was a happy once, as she once said on Instagram: “I was lucky to have an exceptional, hardworking, loving and demanding father. Thank you dad for opening me and mom the doors of life.’

Ana, who wanted to be an actor – and ended up making her big screen debut when she appeared in Jules Verne’s Mystery on Monster Island at 27 in 1981 – first earned a biology degree at her father’s request.

Her best known acting role is in the 1984 romantic drama Bolero – opposite Bo Derek and George Kennedy, where she played Catalina Bo Derek and George Kennedy.

Ana hit the small screen between 1993 until 2008, when she hosted the TV series What’s the Bet?

She also worked as a model in Spain, and was the centre of numerous swimwear photoshoots published in newspapers and magazines

Ana’s love life has also been the topic of much speculation: she was linked to the late Argentinian football player Diego Armando Maradona in the 1980s, rumours she has confirmed.

She once told Hola magazine: ‘It’s true that he sent me flowers when I played in Spain. He sent them to my parents’ house because I lived with them.

‘Then we met in Los Angeles, he was a genius and I was fond of him but nothing romantic For my part, I only felt friendship. I have never had an affair with Maradona.’

But her big public romance came in 1990, when she had an affair with Italian aristocrat Alessandro Lecquio – the nephew of disgraced Spanish monarch King Juan Carlos.

Alessandro was said to be married to model Antonia Dell’Atte when he first met Ana in at a Chanel party in Madrid. Despite this, the two became a couple, and in 1993, welcomed their son Aless.

Despite the relationship coming to an end, she praised Alessandro, and noted how she was  supportive he was during Aless’ period of ill health, Ana said: ‘He has always been there.’

Her next significant relationship came with Croatian footballer Davor Suker in 1996.

He tried to propose to Ana, but his romantic gesture did not go well, as she explained: ‘Poor Davor put the ring in a glass of wine, so how could I have guessed that?

‘We had dinner at the famous restaurant Txistu, I drank the wine and in the end I almost choked.’

Ana endured a period of extreme difficulty between 2020 and 2022, when she lost her son and both her parents, who died within months of each other.

In response to the death of her son, she again too to social media.

Ana announcing the tragic news on Instagram at the time, she wrote: ‘My life died out.’

When her mother died a year later, at 95-years-old, Ana wrote: ‘Thank you for being my example of a mother, generosity and love. I miss my best friend and partner in crime so much!!

‘Please forgive me, I still don’t have the strength to enter your grief. But I know how you are a mother you understand me better than anyone. I love you forever and ever.’

When her father Antonio died aged 96, around a year later, she wrote on social media: ‘The three people I love the most in my life are not here with me and I swear, Dad, I don’t know how I’m going to do it.’

However, it was becoming a mother again earlier this year which brought some happiness back to her life.

The birth of her daughter saw her appear on the front cover of Hola, which she shared online.

Ana wrote: ‘They caught us! A light full of love came to my darkness. I will never be alone again. I HAVE LIVED AGAIN.’

Only her two sisters and Alex’s dad, Swiss-born actor and Spanish TV regular Alessandro Lequio, are understood to have been kept informed of Obregon’s surrogacy baby plans.

Alessandro Lecquio has so far declined to comment but his ex-wife Antonia Dell’Atte, in an Instagram post from Miami which Spanish press have described as a thinly-veiled attack on Obregon, wrote: ‘I love Miami.

‘It’s so big you can avoid having to meet pathetic and unbearable people who above all are selfish and egocentric.’

The report of surrogacy reignited a controversy in Spanish society, with three government ministers publicly criticising the move despite it being legal as the magazine said it had occurred abroad.

Irene Montero, Spain’s left-wing equality minister, responded to the news by saying surrogacy equated to poverty discrimination, adding ‘It is legally recognised in our country as a form of violence against women.’

Her critical comments were echoed by Presidency Minister Felix Bolaños and Budget Minister Maria Jesus Montero.

‘Women’s bodies should neither be bought nor rented to satisfy anyone’s desires,’ Bolaños said.

However, despite the criticism, the decision to have her daughter seems to have brought some happiness to her life after a difficult time.

She had been wearing white, a colour she chose to represent her mourning, but has recently been seen in red outfits again.

According to Ana, she is ‘excited’ to wear red again as it is his favourite colour and she has ‘been in mourning for three years and then, suddenly, red was my favorite colour but I didn’t feel it’.

Now though, she says, with her daughter, she ‘already feel[s] it’ and feels that her daughter ‘wants to see her in colour’.
