Nottingham Forest’s Emmanuel Dennis in action for loan club Istanbul Basaksehir
Nottingham Forest forward Emmanuel Dennis is closing on a surprise return to English football.
The 26-year-old had been due to spend the season on loan at Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir. However, his loan looks set to be cut short and a move elsewhere appears to be on the horizon.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Watford have agreed to sign Dennis on loan for the second half of the season. It is said the attacker has “accepted to take 70 percent pay cut” to link up with his former club.
It is said the deal does not include an option to make the switch a permanent one. The move could be concluded swiftly, with a medical reportedly booked in for today (Tuesday).
Dennis signed for the Reds from the Hornets in the summer of 2022 but has struggled to make an impact at the City Ground. He made 25 appearances in the Garibaldi last season – 16 of which were as a substitute – and scored two goals.
He was left out of Forest’s 25-man Premier League squad for the first half of this term. And the move to Turkey followed soon after.
The switch to Istanbul Basaksehir hasn’t quite worked out as hoped, though. Dennis has made eight league appearances this season, being in the starting XI for half of them.
He will be hoping for better fortune at Vicarage Road, where he scored 10 goals in 35 Premier League games during the 2021/22 campaign. The Nigeria international is under contract with the Reds until 2026.
