Alberta RCMP drug trafficking investigation leads to numerous charges

Mounties from Barrhead, Swan Hills and the Parkland RCMP dog unit executed a search warrant in Barrhead on March 15 after a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking activity connected to two homes in the area.

Numerous charges have been laid after an Alberta RCMP investigation turned up a cache of drugs and weapons.

The search turned up more than 350 grams of a variety of drugs including suspected crystal methamphetamine and cocaine, more than 70 cartons of illegal cigarettes, five firearms and a large quantity of ammunition, computers stolen from Barrhead Composite High School, a stolen bike and more than $2,500 in cash.

Randy Blake Wiebe, 65, of Barrhead is facing charges for 8 offences including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by a crime, possession of cigarettes not marked for tax paid sale and four firearm offences.

Nicole Sandra Bombay, 26, of Barrhead, is facing six offences, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of cigarettes not marked for tax paid sale and two firearms offences.

A 70-year-old woman, also from Barrhead, has been arrested and charges are pending, according to the RCMP.

Wiebe is in custody and will be appearing in Barrhead Provincial Court  on March 21.  Bombay was released on conditions to appear on the same date  .

According to officers, the bike that was recovered during the investigation was stolen from a local school on Jan. 16, from a child whose family was unable to replace it. Barrhead RCMP was able to return the bike to child who was “beyond excited” to have his bike back.
