Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday hit out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for assuring to make his junior minister and BJP candidate Ajay Mishra Teni a ‘bada aadmi’ (a big man), asserting that the farmers and the general public of Lakhimpur Kheri will give a befitting reply to the ‘Thar’ with their votes.
A Mahindra Thar had mowed down four farmers and a journalist during an agitation in October 2021 and Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish is the main accused in the murder case. Ashish is out on bail at present.
Shah had on Wednesday appealed to people to vote for Mishra so that he could make the sitting MP a “big man”.
Addressing a gathering while campaigning for his party candidate Utkarsh Verma in Lakhimpur Kheri, the SP chief said, “Senior (BJP) leaders from Delhi came here. The pavilion was not occupied even half of this. Why would people come to hear the speech of those who came from Delhi and Lucknow? Because the farmers and people of Lakhimpur have decided this time to give a befitting reply to the Thar with their vote.”

He further said, “Jo log keh rahe hain ki unhe aur bada bana denge, hamein poora bharosa hai Lakhimpur ki janata aur kisano par kyonki ye zila hamara border zila hai. Is baar hamari janata itna vote daalegi ki BJP ka pratyashi border ke baahar phenk diya jayega (People are assuring to make him bigger, but I have full confidence in the people and farners of Lakhimpur which is a border district (with Nepal). This time people will vote to throw the BJP candidate out of the border).”
Reminding the people of Lakhimpur Kheri of the 2021 incident, Yadav said that farmers and a journalist had lost their lives when the BJP leader’s son ran over his Thar on them. The INDIA alliance will ensure justice for them if it comes to power, he added.
The former chief minister further raised the issues of farmers and paper leaks in recruitment tests. More than 10 paper leak incidents have occurred so far, he claimed. The SP leader targeted BJP government for waiving loans to the tune of lakhs of crores of industrialists and not giving a relief of few lakhs to farmers.
‘BJP put lives of countrymen at risk’
Yadav accused the BJP of risking the lives of countrymen after UK-based pharmaceutical major AstraZeneca started global withdrawal of its COVID-19 vaccine, which was provided in India as ‘Covishield’.
“The firm making it is withdrawing its deadly vaccine from the market on the pretext of excess supply. The public is asking the BJP government that how will this vaccine come back from the bodies of those who have taken it?” Yadav asked in a post on X.—PTI inputs
