Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings’ juggernaut got off track after back-to-back defeats to Lucknow Super Giants. CSK, a dominant force at home, failed to defend 210 in the previous game at Chepauk after Marcus Stoinis scored a magnificent 124* to stun the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side. As things stand, CSK have four wins in eight games and need another four wins in six matches to qualify for the playoffs. The IPL 2024 has seen home teams dominate thus CSK would leave no stone unturned to beat SRH at Chepauk on April 28.
CSK have been riding on the performance of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube, however, the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell have failed to make a significant contribution. Gaikwad is the team’s leading run scorer in IPL 2024, with 349 runs while Dube has been magnificent, scoring 311 runs at an incredible strike rate of 170. The wicket at Chepauk is usually helpful for spinners, however, it wasn’t a typical Chennai wicket against LSG and was uncharacteristically flat. A little bit of dew meant that defending a score was tough.
Will Ajinkya Rahane Be Dropped Against SRH?
Ajinkya Rahane’s form will be a massive concern for CSK. Rahane has looked a pale shadow of his own and thus CSK might think of dropping him from the playing XI. CSK could think something out of the box and ask Ravindra Jadeja to open the innings as he has struggled to hit those lusty blows in the latter end of the innings. He can be used as a pinch hitter to take advantage of the field restrictions. CSK could thus play Sameer Rizvi as Rahane’s replacement and he could be used as finisher.
