Ajax is the leader in the Eredivisie for at least one day. The team from Amsterdam won a disguised training match against SC Cambuur (9-0) in their own Johan Cruijff Arena, with goals for the players who could use a success.
Newcomer Mohamed Daramy introduced himself to the home crowd with a goal within two minutes of his entrance, Sébastien Haller continued his productive week with a nice heel ball, Danilo scored his first competition goal for Ajax and Steven Berghuis also drew attention to himself.
Berghuis hit the ball unhindered after a rehearsed corner, after he had already prepared the ball for Jurriën Timber. With 2-0 it was already a run after twenty minutes of play.
And that against the club from Leeuwarden, the city that has a special place in the heart of Berghuis. As a child he took his first steps on the football field, as a pupil at the local LAC Frisia. Father Frank raged over the flank of SC Cambuur, then still active in the first division.
The ambitious Cambuur had finally surpassed that level last year, after the corona pandemic previously got in the way of promotion. But Henk de Jong’s team did not really present itself as a full-fledged Eredivisionist yet.
