Adam Gilchrist lashes out at ‘fake quotes’ on criticising Pakistan team after 0-3 defeat in Australia Tests

Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist was furious after ‘fake and made-up quotes’ did the rounds on social media platforms.

A Facebook account put out quotes attributing Gilchrist that read, “Pakistan is the worst Asian team in Australian conditions, what (have) they won here in the last 35 years?”

After the post went viral, Gilchrist issued a clarification, saying that the quotes are baseless. “I never said this. Absolutely fake, made up quotes,” Gilchrist wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter

He also lauded Pakistan for giving Australia a run for their money in their three-match Test series. Pakistan, led by Shan Masood, lost the series 0-3.

“Pakistan were excellent at times this summer, against a world champion Australian team and very nearly pinched a Test or two,” Gilchrist added.

After losing the Perth Test by 360 runs, Pakistan gave themselves a decent chance of winning both in Melbourne and Sydney, but failed to hold their nerve both times.

Pakistan managed to take a lead in the first innings at the SCG after Aamer Jamal picked up six wickets and scored 82 runs. However, Pakistan faltered in their second innings as Australia went on to win the match by eight wickets.

Pakistan also lost their 17th Test match in a row on Australian soil. After the defeat in the Test series, Pakistan are all set to start their new era in T20Is under their new skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi.

They are set to lock horns with Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in the opening T20I on Friday, January 12 at the Eden Park in Auckland. On Friday, Pakistan named their playing XI with fast bowler Abbas Afridi making his international debut.
