Southampton Look To Swoop For Scottish Top Flight Forward

Fulham, Southampton, Sheffield United, and Queens Park Rangers are set to battle it out for the signature of Rangers striker Kemar Roofe this summer, according to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider.

Having scored 38 goals in 98 appearances in all competitions for Rangers, Roofe’s contract at Ibrox is set to expire at the end of the season, and there has been no development on a new deal for the Jamaican international.

This means he will likely be available for clubs to sign on a free transfer this summer, with Fulham, Sheffield United, Southampton, and Queens Park Rangers all reportedly monitoring his situation closely.

Roofe looks to get his career back on track.

The 31-year-old joined Rangers from Belgian side Anderlecht for around £4.5m back in 2020 and was a part of their title-winning side in 2021, as well as the side that reached the Europa League final the following season.

However, Roofe has scored just one goal in 11 Scottish Premiership appearances this season and appears to have fallen out of favour with manager Philippe Clement.

His season has been disrupted by injury, but he’s now back to full fitness and in need of regular football.

Roofe’s experience could prove valuable to potential suitors.

Despite his lack of game time for Rangers this season, Roofe would still be a hot commodity for several clubs.

He scored 29 goals and bagged 11 assists during his three-year spell in the Championship with Leeds United between 2016 and 2019 (via transfermarkt), numbers that earned him a £7m move to Anderlecht.

All four clubs linked with Roofe look set to be in the market for a striker this summer. Fulham could do with adding some depth to their striking department, and Southampton’s prolific frontman Che Adams has been linked with a move away from St Mary’s, with his contract set to expire this summer.

As for Sheffield United, they could be forced to revamp their squad should they be relegated from the Premier League, and QPR have struggled for goals with strikers Lyndon Dykes, Sinclair Armstrong and Michael Frey only scoring eight goals between them this season.
