After a flashy start, Willem II van Groningen wins, best start to the season in 18 years

After a flashy start, Willem II van Groningen wins, best start to the season in 18 years

Willem II has won an Eredivisie match for the third time this season. At home against FC Groningen, Fred Grim’s team got off to a flying start with a comfortable lead after 24 minutes. No matter what they tried in the remainder of the game, the visitors couldn’t fix that.

After only five minutes it was hit in Tilburg. Kwasi Wriedt punished the visitors’ poor defense.

Groningen was fierce, but also sloppy. Willem II outclassed the away team at times with beautiful football. When Dries Saddiki had made it 2-0 after a long attack, the game already seemed decided.
