After 13 BJP functionaries, 100 BJP members join AIADMK in Chengalpattu district

Days after 13 BJP functionaries left the BJP in Tamil Nadu to join the AIADMK, over 100 BJP members in Chengalpattu district joined the AIADMK.

The BJP and AIADMK are allies in Tamil Nadu.

The 100 women BJP members were led by BJP’s Chengalpattu district vice-president Gangadevi Shankar. They joined the AIADMK in the presence of former AIADMK minister Chinnaiah and AIADMK district secretary Chitlabakkam C Rajendran.

Speaking to reporters after the move to AIADMK, Gangadevi Shankar said, “We are dissatisfied with the BJP leadership and the lack of respect for women working for the party. We were ill-treated at every level and that pushed us to quit the party.”

Gangadevi Shankar further added that they had spoken to TN BJP Chief K Annamalai about the conflicts at the mandal and district levels but he did not care to listen to their complaints. Gangadevi Shankar added, “If our complaints had been redressed, we would not have quit the party (BJP).”

All those who have quit the BJP to move to AIADMK in the last few weeks have expressed their displeasure with Annamalai’s leadership.

Among the functionaries who quit Tamil Nadu BJP in the recent past include the state IT wing head CTR Nirmal Kumar, state IT wing secretary Dilip Kannan, OBC state secretary Jyothy, former state secretary Krishnan and Tiruchi suburban district deputy chairman Vijay.

TN BJP vice president Narayanan Thirupathy had told IndiaToday.in that all these moves were regular in politics and that those ‘who quit the party and abused the party president did it because they could not get what they wanted here.”

Though fingers are being pointed at Annamalai, political analysts stated that the groundwork done by Annamalai for the BJP in Tamil Nadu has been tremendous and in the long run it will pay dividends for the saffron party.

Meanwhile, some party functionaries from NTK (Naam Tamilar Katchi) and TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK (Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazhagam) also joined the DMK in the presence of Eddapadi Palaniswami.
