Hard Rock Cafe issue statement following 'immediate' closure of Glasgow venue

Global restaurant chain, Hard Rock Cafe, has issued a statement following the closure of their venue in Glasgow city centre.

The doors of the premises on Buchanan Street have been shut since yesterday, Tuesday February 27, with a note taped to the menu outside the iconic building.

It told customers that it would ‘not be operating today’ and apologised for the ‘inconvenience’.

The globally popular eatery has now revealed the restaurant will not be operating ‘at this time’ and redirected those looking to grab a bite in the rock ‘n’ roll venue to their premises in Edinburgh.

A spokesperson for Hard Rock International said: “We regret the Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow, located at 179 Buchanan Street, will not be operating at this time, but we continue to welcome our valued guests at the Hard Rock Cafe Edinburgh, located at 20 George Street in Edinburgh, Edinburgh EH2, 2PF.”

Unite Hospitality have confirmed they are supporting those impacted following the shock announcement.

Lead organiser of Unite Hospitality, Bryan Simpson, said: “The way in which workers at Hard Rock Cafe in Glasgow have been treated is morally reprehensible and almost certainly unlawful.

“For so many workers to be given so little notice is outrageous and a clear breach of well established employment law.

“We will be doing everything in our power to support our members at Hard Rock to ensure they are paid everything they are entitled to.”
