Gastroparesis is a condition that causes delay in the emptying of the stomach. It’s usually caused by damaged nerves, often from diabetes, that control gastric (stomach) emptying. The result is that the food you have eaten does not move down the gastrointestinal tract normally. How often and how much you eat to control symptoms and avoid low blood sugars is highly variable.
