‘Chicago Med’ Showrunners Stepping Down

NBC’s Chicago Med will have new leadership heading into its 10th season.

Co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, who have been with the drama since it debuted in 2015, are stepping down at the end of the show’s current run. The married couple have been helmed Med for nine seasons and more than 170 episodes to date. A new showrunner will be named later.

That’s an unusually long tenure for any series, let alone one hailing from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment, which frequently shakes up operations both in front of and behind the camera. Frolov and Schneider came in ahead of Chicago Med’s series premiere, taking over for Andrew Dettman. In contrast, Med’s fellow Chicago series, Fire and PD, have changed showrunners multiple times over the course of their runs.

“We were honored to be chosen by Dick Wolf to run Chicago Med and have tremendously enjoyed our association with Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television,” Frolov and Schneider said in a statement. “We love Chicago Med and have devoted all our creative energies to it, but after nine seasons we feel it’s time for us to move on and explore other possibilities. We’ve been privileged to work with a great writing staff, production team and a brilliant cast of actors. We will miss them all.”

Said Wolf, “We’re grateful to Diane and Andy for nine fabulous seasons of Chicago Med. They helped us give NBC a No. 1 bona fide hit for almost a decade.”

Chicago Med is consistently the most watched show in its Wednesday time period; the current season is averaging about 10.5 million viewers across all platforms. The series comes from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television; along with Frolov and Schneider, the executive producers are Wolf, Stephen Hootstein, Eli Talbert, Derek Haas, Arthur W. Forney, Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt and Peter Jankowski.

Frolov and Schneider have worked together on series including Northern Exposure, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire and The Chris Isaak Show and have won three Emmys. They are repped by WME.
