Former NFL Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck Lands Coaching Job

Matt Hasselbeck will reportedly work with his brother coaching high school football.

Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, The Ensworth School is hiring Hasselbeck as the offensive coordinator. The private school in Nashville, Tennessee, named Tim Hasselbeck its head coach in December.

Those high school players will receive tutelage from a former three-time Pro Bowl quarterback. Matt threw 212 touchdowns with an 82.4 quarterback rating over 209 career NFL games.

The older Hasselbeck sibling led the Seattle Seahawks to six playoff appearances during his decade-long tenure while also playing for the Green Bay Packers, Tennessee Titans, and Indianapolis Colts. He last played in 2015.

After retiring, Hasselbeck joined ESPN in 2016. He worked on Sunday NFL Countdown before getting laid off last June.

Late last year, Hasselbeck told Go Long he was “super disappointed” to get fired. However, it led to him coaching at his former high school during his son’s senior year.

“My dad’s the tights ends coach. I’m the quarterbacks coach. I ride home from practices with my son in the car,” Hasselbeck said. “It’s like the coolest thing. I never would have had the courage to quit my job to do this.”

Matt will continue working alongside family on Tim’s staff. Tim replaced head coach Roc Batten, who resigned after going 32-22 in the previous five years.

The Ensworth School has graduated future NFL players such as Orleans Darkwa, Kevin and Conor McDermott, and Bryce Hopkins.

“I am deeply thankful and honored for this opportunity to lead the Ensworth football program,” Tim Hasselbeck said when getting hired. “Our family has been part of the Ensworth community for nearly a decade, and this Ensworth community has been like family to us.”
