Abhishek Sharma to open for India after T20 World Cup? Mike Hesson weighs in

Mike Hesson feels that Abhishek Sharma could be opening for India after the T20 World Cup as he continues his fine run with SRH. Abhishek scored 75 runs and remained unbeaten as he and Travis Head put the LSG bowlers to the sword on Wednesday, May 8.  SRH won the match by 10 wickets as Head and Abhishek would help their side chase down the target in just 9.4 overs. Speaking to JioCinema, Hesson said that Abhishek would make it to the Indian team after the T20 World Cup in June and praised the SRH batter’s ability to play spin in the powerplay and how he has improved against pace as well.Â

Hesson would say that there will be a few changes to the Indian team after the World Cup and Abhishek would be in the mix with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.  “Oh, look, I think so. I mean, I think his ability to take on spin in the power play. And he’s improved greatly against pace. He is a high quality player. He’s a boundary hitter. He is a six hitter and no doubt post World Cup, and he will start to make some changes, whether it be Jaiswal, himself or Shubman Gill. To be fair, there’s a few. There’s plenty of names, but he will definitely be one that will have plenty of people talking about,” said Hesson.Â

How well has Abhishek performed in IPL 2024?

Abhishek has already scored 401 runs in 12 matches for SRH this season. This is the second-best tally he has had in his IPL career after his 2022 campaign when he scored 426 runs in 14 matches for SRH. The Punjab batter has an average of 36.45 and a strike rate of 205.64.Â

Abhishek is currently the leader of the pack when it comes to the number of sixes hit this season, as he has 35 to his name. His knock against LSG consisted of 8 boundaries and 6 sixes as he and Head scored 107 runs in the powerplay overs.  SRH will now play their final 2 home matches of the season against GT and PBKS on May 16 and May 19.Â
