fortnite is holding a star wars crossover event on may 3

Fortnite

The Force is taking over Fortnite next month as Star Wars comes to the popular online game.

Epic Games has officially announced a crossover event devoted to the blockbuster franchise that will span Fortnite’s biggest modes: Battle Royale, Lego Fortnite, and the music-themed Fortnite festival.

When is the Fortnite x Star Wars event?

We don’t know much about the upcoming collaboration other than the fact that it kicks off on May 3, a day before Star Wars Day.

What will be included in Fortnite x Star Wars?

Still, some Fortnite leakers have already started revealing what the event will entail. Players can expect at least one new mythic item in the “Wookie Bowcaster”, according to the prolific HypeX account on Twitter (now X).

The same leaker also claims that Rebel Leia Organa and Chewbacca could appear as skins, although that’s currently unconfirmed.

As you’d expect from the galactic series, lightsabers and Force Abilities are set to return after making their debut in past crossovers.

Meanwhile, the Fortnite Festival account on X has indicated that it will add John Williams’ Cantina Band as a track to coincide with the event.

Disney’s investment in Fortnite

Star Wars has a history of fun collabs with Fortnite, where the galaxy far, far away meets Tilted Towers.

Around the same time last year, the game featured the Find the Force event, a three-week extravaganza that celebrated the prequels by adding skins for Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, Darth Maul and six different clone troopers. As is the norm for Fortnite, the outfits could be unlocked in a mini-battle pass stocked with free and paid rewards.

The Mandalorian and Boba Fett have also made appearances in past seasons of the online game.

This latest event is the first since Star Wars owner Disney announced a $1.5bn (£1.2bn) investment in Epic Games, which makes Fortnite and Rocket League.

As part of the deal, the two companies will work to create games and an entertainment universe home to characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and more. Disney envisions this as a place where people can “play, watch, shop and engage with its content”.

Disney boss Bob Iger described the investment as the media company’s “biggest foray into the game space ever”.
