The Sims 5 Pre-Release Version Leaks Online
- The next entry in The Sims series, codenamed Project Rene, has been leaked online, revealing features like cross-platform play and new game engine.
- The pre-release version of The Sims 5 includes PC and Android builds, with Denuvo DRM and a switch to Unreal Engine from Frostbite.
- While fans are eager to learn more about The Sims 5, the leaked version may not provide a full impression of the game’s potential as it’s incomplete.
An in-progress version of the next entry in The Sims series has just been leaked online, and some fans are rushing to get a peek at what developer Maxis has been up to recently. The last entry in the long-running series from Maxis and EA first launched back in 2014 and, while it has received lots of expansions and updates over the years, many fans would argue the franchise is long overdue for a sequel. While the next title in The Sims franchise is currently in the works, there has been little in the way of concrete details for some time.
It was revealed back in 2022 that The Sims 5 had been codenamed Project Rene, meant to signify a renaissance for the series, and this announcement came with a few hints about what features would be added to the series. Since then, however, there has been far less official information from Maxis and EA about the game. Now, thanks to a new leak, it seems that players who choose to go looking will be able to get more than just bits of info about the upcoming title.

The Sims 5’s Character Creation Needs to Get Ahead of the Curve
To keep the series at the top of its genre and stave off new threats, The Sims 5 needs to feature the franchises most robust character creator yet.
Gamers are now learning that leakers managed to get their hands on a pre-release version of TheSims 5 and released it online. It’s currently unclear who leaked it or where the files initially appeared, but the news has quickly spread on Reddit, with multiple posts sharing images of the game files, and these reports have been confirmed by numerous news outlets and fan sites. This is the biggest breach surrounding the game since Sims 5 gameplay images were leaked by a playtester back in 2022.
Leak Includes PC and Android Versions of The Sims 5
Notable revelations coming from these leaks include the fact that the title will be using Denuvo DRM and that Maxis has switched from Frostbite to the Unreal Engine. Both PC and Android versions of the game have been leaked, indicating that both are well into development. It was previously revealed by Maxis that both PC and mobile versions of the game were in the works and that The Sims 5 will feature cross-platform play between them.
Close
Neither Maxis nor EA appear to have responded to this leak at this time, and it’s not clear exactly how recent or complete this pre-release build is. In the coming weeks, it won’t be surprising if more details are revealed by gamers who chose to find and download the leaked build. Many fans may be eager to hear about this work in progress, but they should be careful not to put too much stock in this info. Many have argued that The Sims 5 should be a fresh start for the series, and it possibly could be. A leaked version that’s far from complete, however, is unlikely to give a full impression of whether or not this is the case.
The Sims
EA’s life simulation franchise The Sims began in the year 2000 with a game of the same name that was, at one point, the highest-selling PC game of all time.
The main series games let players build a home, create a handful of characters, and then guide them through their relationships, careers, and goals.
