The Peter R. de Vriesstraat joins the television studios in Aalsmeer, according to the municipality ‘a very suitable location because he has worked in the TV world for so many years’. A new residential area will be built in the coming years on the site of the studios, one of the streets will bear the journalist’s name. “This is a beautiful tribute to a special personality who continued where others stopped,” said Mayor Gido Oude Kotte. In Aalsmeer there is already a tile with the name of De Vries in the ‘Walk of Fame’ in the Zijdstraat.
The younger brother of De Vries, Wouter, called on the mayor of Amsterdam on Friday to name the crime reporter who died after an attack.
He also hopes for a monument to the crime reporter. To honor his brother’s legacy, the work he did should become commonplace, Wouter believes. “I myself am not waiting for a statue of my brother, but I am waiting for a monument by Peter R. de Vries,” he said. “That should be a monument that we as a society stand for. A kind of monument where you think back to something, but also look ahead.”
