Destiny 2’s Final Shape Prismatic Exotics Break Two Series-Long Streaks

  • Destiny 2 is back on track with the new Into The Light update and The Final Shape livestream, promising big changes in gameplay.
  • Prismatic Exotic class items break long-standing traditions, offering unique combinations of two Exotic perks for the first time ever.
  • The powercreep with Prismatic subclasses and Exotic class items is set to shake up the meta and provide endless possibilities for strong builds.

Destiny 2 is experiencing a bit of a resurgence both in popularity and content after a series of issues and controversies started with Lightfall last year, but the new Into The Light update and the recent The Final Shape livestream put Bungie’s looter-shooter back on track. Into The Light is shaking up the game in big ways, but The Final Shape is set to do that and then some based on the livestream where the new Prismatic subclass, Dread enemy faction, and Prismatic Exotic class items were revealed. Destiny 2’s Prismatic subclass is in and of itself a buildcrafter’s dream come true, but the Prismatic Exotic class items will take it to the next level – and break two long streaks while doing so.

As with other longstanding series and franchises, there are multiple traditions that Destiny 2 and its predecessor set over time, and with The Final Shape being the culmination of a 10-year saga, it’s only natural that some of them will be broken. The new Prismatic subclasses alone are a big departure from traditional subclasses, as players will be able to wield Light and Darkness simultaneously and combine existing Aspects and Fragments. However, the biggest departure comes from the new Exotics from The Final Shape.

Destiny 2’s Exotic Class Items Are The First in Almost Seven Years

Destiny 2’s new Exotic class items are a big deal because they put two long streaks to an end, with the first being that Destiny 2 had never had Exotic class items depsite them playing a big role in the original title. This changes now, and it’s a great thing when considering how pivotal some other armor pieces can be in buildcrafting if they are not Exotic in rarity. With Destiny 2 soon turning seven years old in September 2024, it means that Exotic class items are breaking a 7-year streak.

More importantly, Exotic class items are also going to have two perks each, with each of them being rolled from a pool of several Exotic perks, even from items that don’t belong to the players’ current class. What this means is that, virtually, every Exotic class item for Prismatic subclasses can be unique, and each of them can merge the powers of two different Exotics at once. This is unprecedented in the series, breaking the traditional pattern of Exotic perks being unique as well as that of Exotics armor pieces in Destiny 2 only having one game-changing trait.

Destiny 2’s Exotic Class Items Combine Two Exotic Perks For The First Time Ever

The levels of powercreep reached with the inclusion of Prismatic subclasses and then the new Prismatic Exotic class items are incredible, and the combination of the two is sure to wreak havoc on the current meta and reshape it entirely when Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion drops on June 4. Exotic class items combining two random Exotic perks can create devastating combinations, especially considering that they’re not limited to the class they drop for. Potentially, for example, one could have an Exotic item providing invisibility and healing on melee final blows and Finishers as well as bonus melee damage when surrounded by enemies.

Another example could be Destiny 2’s Warlock Exotics Sunbracers and Claws of Ahamkara, providing infinite grenades on melee kills while having two melee charges. The combinations are endless, and with Prismatic getting a lot of existing traits from Destiny 2’s subclasses means that players will have plenty of opportunities to find incredibly strong Exotic class items to fit their builds or, alternatively, craft builds around them. Combining two Exotic armor pieces has long been an unexplored power fantasy, and one that is finally seeing the light of day with The Final Shape.
