statement released amid leeds united fury ahead of fa cup fifth round tie at chelsea

Over 5,000 Leeds fans will be making the journey to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday

Leeds United fans have been left to pay a reported price of over £200 in order to travel back from Chelsea on the train for the FA Cup fifth round.

Daniel Farke’s men travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night as they look to cause an upset and make it through to the quarter-final of the competition. Leeds will be backed by a sell-out away crown of 5,366 after all of the tickets in the away end were snapped up.

After getting their hands on tickets, supporters are now sorting out how to get to and from London for the match. For many, the train is the first port of call.

Taking to social media, fans have claimed that prices were showing at £220 for the 23.33 train from London Kings Cross to Leeds. The train at 22.00, which fans won’t make in time, is priced at £41.70.

A look at the National Rail website now shows the 23:33 from London to Leeds as sold out with no fares available for supporters to buy. It means that any still looking for a way back to Leeds will now have to look at other options.

In a statement, operator LNER said: “We understand that the FA Cup fifth round game against Chelsea is an important match for Leeds United fans, with many of them travelling with us to and from London on Wednesday, February 28,” read a statement from LNER given to the

“Due to unprecedented demand for travel back to Leeds on the 23:33 service from London King’s Cross, the service has sold out. We’re continuing to work with our partners to explore ways to further support fans travelling back from London after the match.”

Earlier, the operator had responded on social media that the price was at £220 due to the service being fully booked, leading to the customer having to buy an anytime ticket in order to be able to board the train. In now however seems that no tickets for the service are available to purchase.
