‘The only problem is…’: AB de Villiers on Shivam Dube’s chances to make the T20 World Cup squad
NEW DELHI: South African cricketing icon AB de Villiers has thrown his weight behind Indian batter Shivam Dube, advocating for his inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad. De Villiers, renowned for his astute cricketing insights, hailed Dube’s exceptional performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
Addressing his audience on his YouTube channel, De Villiers lauded Dube’s contribution to CSK’s success, remarking, “Shivam Dube finds himself in a spot where he could possibly make that T20 World Cup squad. The only problem is there’s a lot of traffic, he has put his hand up on numerous occasions, he’s had a fantastic season. He is a powerhouse heater and just a fantastic cricketer.”
Dube’s statistics speak volumes of his prowess, having amassed an impressive 242 runs in just 6 matches, showcasing a remarkable strike rate of 163.51. His ability to anchor the middle-order and serve as a reliable finisher has earned him accolades from fans and experts alike.
Having played alongside Dube during his stint with RCB, De Villiers highlighted the left-hander’s evolution since joining CSK, noting, “He has come a very long way since he left RCB… he’s found something there at the CSK camp that’s made him feel free and he looks like he’s playing the best cricket of his life.”
De Villiers further dissected Dube’s batting approach, emphasizing his composure and adaptability on the crease. “Just not overthinking at the crease and just watching the ball and playing the situation in front of him,” remarked the former Proteas skipper.
