Pokemon Fans Have Theory About Legends: Z-A’s Setting
- Fans are speculating about the plot of Z-A based on clues from past games and the redevelopment of Lumiose City.
- A popular Pokemon Legends: Z-A theory suggests that gamers will be exploring a futuristic setting in the Kalos region, connecting various Pokemon games in the sixth generation.
- Exploration of underground areas in Z-A could be influenced by the concept of wild Pokemon living in places like New Mauville and Sea Mauville.
Some attentive fans have put forth a theory regarding the setting of the upcoming game Pokemon Legends: Z-A, suggesting it will take place in the future instead of the past. Pokemon Legends: Z-A was first revealed at the Pokemon Day event this past February, and it is set to revisit the formula of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Back in 2022, Legends: Arceus was seen as a fresh and innovative take on the classic Pokemon-catching gameplay, and while little has been shown about Legends: Z-A, fans have already started theorizing about its plot points and where it will be set.
Unlike Legends: Arceus, which was set in a past version of the Sinnoh region, Legends: Z-A will be going back to the Kalos region, which was first introduced in the Pokemon X and Y 3DS games. This can be seen with the variety of Pokemon from those two games, as well as it specifically being set in a version of Lumiose City, a major capital of Kalos, being under urban redevelopment. While the previous Legends game was set in the past, there’s a theory floating around that Legends: Z-A will be taking place in the future.

Pokemon Legends Z-A: 6 Things Only Diehard Fans Noticed In The Trailer
The trailer for the upcoming Pokemon Legends Z-A offered plenty of clues, but many casual viewers may have missed them.
This theory was shared by Twitter user Mordecais_mons, based on a number of factors that connect Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (ORAS), X and Y, Scarlet and Violet, and Legends: Z-A. Specifically, he makes the connection to how Hoenn’s Mauville City is named “Violet City” in French, which is connected to the future-focused plot seen in Pokemon Violet. On top of that, Mauville City underwent a major redevelopment plan in ORAS, where the city’s gym leader and founder, Wattson, modeled the interior city after the design of Kalos’ Lumiose City.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A: How it ties together:
Before the events of the game, the original founders of Great Mauville attempted to establish three different ventures using Infinity Energy. These include the New Mauville underground city, Sea Mauville, and Mauville City. Both the New Mauville and Sea Mauville projects were shut down after expanding into a power plant, where wild Pokemon were discovered to be living there. Paris, the inspiration for Lumiose City in Pokemon X and Y, had a similar series of underground catacombs. With Lumiose City being redeveloped and the name connection of Mauville City to keep in mind, it seems fair to sugges it will be set in the future.

Another takeaway from Mordecai_mons’ theory is that the setting of Legends: Z-A could be exploring the underground, as Pokemon were previously discovered to be living there, just like in New Mauville. As such, the redevelopment of Lumiose City could be due to the Infinity Energy research that was an integral part of Pokemon X and Y’s lore. Ultimately, this is an interesting theory that would tie all the sixth generation games together.
Pokemon Legends Z-A
The sequel to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Pokemon Legends: Z-A takes Pokemon trainers back to the Kalos region’s Lumiose City.
