Former Queensland premier Campbell Newman says the “needle is moving” on net zero as it was revealed this week in a Redbridge poll that voters prioritise lowering the price of their power bill over the source of their electricity.
‘Needle is moving’: Poll shows people prefer lower power prices to power source
“That poll, which actually shows a very strong desire by the community to see cheaper power before environmental concerns, and that is showing the needle has moved,” Mr Newman told Sky News Australia host Steve Price.
“We also saw that other poll in recent days suggesting that people are strongly backing nuclear and, most interestingly, it was the young that were getting behind it.
“The needle is moving, and I think Australians are working that the cost of net zero is probably something they don’t want to bear, and they are looking for people to come up with new ideas.
“Chris Bowen and, indeed, the Prime Minister are looking increasingly isolated and silly when they … are hanging onto their anti-nuclear stance from all those years ago.”
