8 wet weather finds you won't regret buying.

I love nothing more than being tucked in bed underneath the covers, with a good book in hand, and the sound of rain hitting my windowsill.

However, I hate nothing more than being stuck outside during a torrential downpour after having spent an hour doing my hair, wearing a flimsy t-shirt, and walking around in suede boots that feel more like wet socks.

It seems like no matter how hard I try, I can never come up with an appropriate outfit for when it’s raining. Probably because I wake up dreading the day ahead and throw on whatever is in front of me.

Australia is well and truly heading into monsoon season, and you want to be as prepared as possible before the storm creeps in. I’m talking umbrellas that stay put, and waterproof jackets that keep you warm and dry — it truly sounds too good to be true!

I’ve rounded up the eight most useful finds I’ve come across while researching wet weather gear, because if I’m staying dry this year, then you should too.

Blunt Metro 2.0 Umbrella, $129.

There is nothing, and I mean nothing worse than walking in the rain and having your umbrella flip inside out. Not only does it feel like the world has stopped to stare directly at you, the girl who can’t even handle her umbrella, but it defeats the purpose of owning one in the first place.

Only two umbrellas have never failed me; the first is Blunt, and the second is towards the end of this list. I know $129 is quite steep for an umbrella, but after buying over 50 $10 umbrellas that break on me after one use, I reckon this is a worthy investment.

Aim’n Oversized Anorak, $280.

Do yourself a favour and get yourself an anorak. Does it belong on a runway? No. But you’re going to be thanking me when you’re warm, dry and comfortable despite walking through wild weather. This one by Aim’n is oversized and comes with an adjustable hood, which is a crucial feature if you want to protect your hair from Mother Nature.

Hunter Original Tall Wellington Boots, $239.

Gum boots aren’t just for five-year-olds, and they don’t have to be fire engine red either. These wellies by Hunter are a classic, because not only does it keep your legs and feet dry, but its simplicity means it’ll never go out of style. And you don’t have to wait till it’s raining to pull these out either, because they’ll go with so many outfits in your wardrobe.

RAINS Rain Jacket, $160.

If black isn’t really your style, then this neutral rain jacket from RAINS is my top pick. It looks super luxe while also remaining functional, and the handy features such as the hood and buttoned pockets will ensure no water gets in. It also comes in a wide variety of colours ranging from sky blue to khaki, so you’re bound to find a style you love.

Target Casual Quilt Tote Bag, $35.

If you’re a uni student who carries a bunch of textbooks around, or you head to work every day with your laptop in tow, you’re going to need a heavy-duty, waterproof bag. This one from Target is affordable and comes complete with two straps, in case you want to switch things up. There’s also lining along the inside of the bag, adding another layer of protection.

Kathmandu Pocket-it Unisex Two Layer Rain Pants, $119.98.

Kathmandu isn’t just for hiking. In fact, they have a great range for extreme weather. These two-layer rain pants are waterproof and windproof, and when styled correctly, you won’t even be able to tell you’re wearing trackies. Pair it with an anorak and boots and you’ve got yourself a look.

Aus Wooli Ugg Rain UGG Boots, $159.

If shorter rain boots are more up your street, check out this fun pair. What makes these so different from the rest is that they come with a removable sheepskin insole, meaning on a cold winter’s day, they’ll keep your feet extra warm. These shoes also come in a range of different colours and patterns so you can mix and match as you please.

Oroton Logo Small Umbrella, $69.95.

You have finally reached the second umbrella that has never failed me. The Oroton small umbrella. It’s a cult favourite and for good reason (I’ve had mine for over six years and it’s still going strong!).

Don’t let its size fool you, because while it’s compact enough to fit in your handbag, it’s mighty. My Oroton umbrella has never turned inside-out and always does the job, no matter how bad the weather gets.

At Mamamia, we independently curate and write about products we rave about in our group chats and think you should know about too. If you purchase a product we have recommended, we may earn a small commission.
