KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registered another 69 fatalities due to Covid-19 on Tuesday, including 11 brought-in-dead (BID) cases.

To date, the virus has claimed 28,062 lives.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal, unvaccinated individuals accounted for 45.4 per cent of Covid-19 deaths that occured in the past two weeks.

Fully vaccinated individuals, meanwhile, contributed 44.6 per cent of fatalities while partially vaccinated individuals accounted for only 10.1 per cent of deaths within the same period.

Most of the victims who succumbed to the virus in the last two weeks were aged 60 years old and above (72.2 per cent).

Based on gender, Covid-19 deaths were more prevalent in males (64.9 per cent) compared to females (35.1 per cent).

For every one million people in the country, 27.7 deaths due to Covid-19 had occured within the last two weeks.

On Tuesday, Malaysia recorded 5,745 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the total active cases in the country to 85,916.

Kelantan reported the highest number of new cases in the past two weeks with 69.9 infections detected for every 10,000 people in the state.

Labuan only reported three new cases for every 10,000 people on the island for the same period.

Fully vaccinated individuals accounted for the bulk of new infections detected over the past two weeks (60.5 per cent), followed by unvaccinated individuals (29.7 per cent) and partially vaccinated individuals (9.8 per cent).

Some 1,514 individuals were admitted into hospitals throughout the country yesterday, with Selangor alone receiving 333 patients.

Currently, 676 patients are being treated at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) wards nationwide, with Sarawak alone accounting for 125 patients.

Some 330 patients have also been placed on ventilator support, with 76 of them receiving treatment at hospitals in the Klang Valley.

Only Putrajaya and Labuan had no cases that required treatment in ICU or ventilator support.

On vaccination progress, as of Tuesday, Malaysia has fully inoculated 94 per cent of its adults and 33 per cent of adolescents in the country.

Overall, 70.6 per cent of the country’s population have been fully vaccinated to date.

The Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech is the most used vaccine brand in the country (50.8 per cent), followed by the Sinovac vaccine (40.6 per cent), the AstraZeneca vaccine (8.2 per cent) and the single-dose Cansino (0.3 per cent).

Malaysia is projected to fully vaccinate 80 per cent of its entire population by Dec 16.
