Duke Signee Arrives to Help Blue Devils Land Huge Recruit

The Duke basketball program is hosting NBA Academy African big man Khaman Maluach this weekend. And the 7-foot-2, 235-pound South Sudan native is on hand to watch the seventh-ranked Blue Devils (13-3, 4-1 ACC) try to extend their winning streak to nine in Saturday night’s showdown against unranked Pitt (10-7, 1-5 ACC).

Maluach, a 7-foot-2, 235-pound five-star center who ranks No. 15 overall among 2024 preps in On3’s eyes, isn’t the only heralded high school athlete on hand.

Along with football recruits galore a few rows back from the bench, early Duke basketball signee Darren Harris is in Cameron Indoor Stadium beside Maluach directly behind head coach Jon Scheyer’s seat.

Harris, a Paul VI Catholic (Va.) four-star and 3-point sniper who sits at No. 57 on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, was the first this cycle to commit to Scheyer and his staff. In other words, he’s played at least a small part in the Blue Devil recruiters landing the four other high school seniors who inked their national letter of intent in November.

Scheyer’s haul, featuring the top-ranked senior in Montverde Academy (Fla.) five-star forward Cooper Flagg, already ranks No. 1 in the country. It’ll likely remain there regardless of what happens from here.

That said, the addition of Khaman Maluach, whose on the first official visit in his recruitment and could be on the verge of making up his mind on where he’ll be next season despite only a few reported offers, would put the class in the all-time conversation.

Maluach is the only remaining undecided recruit on the 2024 Blue Devil wishlist.
