Kerry woman convicted of drug driving ‘didn’t realise drugs would stay in her system’

A Listowel woman who was stopped by gardaí and found to be driving under the influence of drugs did not realise that the drugs would remain in her system for days, Listowel District Court was told.

Megan Glavin (24) of 21 Ballyconnell Heights, Kilflynn was before the court for a drug driving offence after she was stopped at Laharan Listowel by gardaí on February 12, 2023.

Sgt Stephen O’Brien told the court that Ms Galvin has cannabis in her system when she was stopped and tested.

The court was told she has one previous conviction for careless driving.

Her solicitor Padraig O’Connell told the court that Ms Galvin did not realise cannabis would still be in her system.

“It is the same old story. Cannabis can be in your system for seven days. Unfortunately it is becoming common at this point,” he said.

He said Ms Glavin was very co-operative and was pleading guilty to the offence.

She was convicted and fined €350 and disqualified from driving for one year.
