ROME: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022’s opening ceremony as well as the Al Nehem the WhaleShark – The Lusail Icon won the gold medals in the Best Sporting Event and Best Creative Installation categories, awarded by the judges of the Bea World Festival – The International Festival of Events and Live Communication held in Rome.
Recognized as the Best Sporting Event, the 30-minute opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was broadcast in more than 170 countries and became part of football’s history.
Artist Marco Balich, the creator of the WhaleShark – The Lusail Icon, was recognized for his work in using Qatar 2022 as a backdrop to symbolize Qatar’s interest in conserving its natural environment.
The installation, which was witnessed by more than 70,000 spectators during the tournament, is now a permanent icon of sustainability and a new landmark for the country.
