Another Patriots legend speaks out against 'The Dynasty'

another patriots legend speaks out against 'the dynasty'

Ty Law

New England Patriots legend Ty Law was one of the numerous former players who spoke in front of cameras for Apple TV+’s “The Dynasty” docuseries detailing the franchise’s six Super Bowl championships from the 2001 season through February 2019.

Law is also now among those associated with the Patriots upset with how the project portrayed former head coach Bill Belichick, even though Law hasn’t yet watched the entire 10-part documentary.

“From what I’ve been hearing, I really don’t like what I’ve been hearing,” Law told Super Bowl LIII Most Valuable Player Julian Edelman on the latest edition of the “Games With Names” program, per Gayle Troiani of NESN. “I don’t like what I’m hearing about how they’re making Bill look. How they’re portraying Bill. … I don’t like it because they made him look like the bad guy. I don’t like that.”

Specifically, “The Dynasty” suggests that Belichick’s treatment of quarterback Tom Brady across the final years of that relationship played a direct role in Brady leaving New England as a free agent to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2020.

Edelman, nose tackle Vince Wilfork, tight end Rob Gronkowski, safety Devin McCourty, fellow safety Rodney Harrison, longtime team captain Matthew Slater and Patriots owner Robert Kraft have defended Belichick and/or have criticized “The Dynasty” since the series’ release. Kraft has explained that while he knew “there were players who gave hours and hours of interviews,” he felt the documentary’s producers focused largely on “the negativity.”

Law told Edelman his interview for the series took roughly a day to complete.

“They took a couple of sound bites,” Law added. “But it was a hell of a lot more to the story as far as how I view things, and they didn’t quite put that in there.”

As much as the famous saying teaches that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, one wonders if director and executive producter for “The Dynasty” Matthew Hamachek fully understood how former Patriots players and New England fans would react to the project. Edelman said that the series is “clickbaity” and “gonna grab attention,” but it’s worth noting big names such as Edelman and Law keep shining a spotlight on “The Dynasty” via their comments.
