Three more wrestlers hope to join the 49 previous four-time state champions at this weekend’s OSAA wrestling state championships at Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
Newberg senior Zachary Keinonen looks to become the fourth member of his program (and the third to wrestle all four seasons with the Tigers) to make the list, although he might have the most difficult path of the three.
Keinonen is not even the No. 1 seed in his weight class despite being a three-time champion. West Linn junior Oscar Doces, who won his first title last year and defeated Keinonen in overtime at the Reser’s Tournament of Champions, is the top seed in the Class 6A 138-pound division, with Keinonen on the opposite side of the bracket as the No. 2 seed.
Sweet Home’s Kyle Sieminski, who won his first Reser’s TOC title last month, hopes to become his school’s first four-time state champion as the top seed at 4A 120.
Illinois Valley’s Mike Miller, who overcame a broken femur to win his third 2A/1A state title last February, also seeks to become his school’s first four-timer as the top seed in the 113 bracket.
The expansion of the state championships from three classifications to five in 2007 has led to a steady increase in four-time champions. Thirty-two of the 49 members of the four-timer club started their careers in 2007 or later, and four others had part of their careers take place following the change.
Below is the complete list of four-time Oregon champions. (This list includes wrestlers who won championships at the 2021 Oregon Wrestling Association state tournaments during the COVID-shortened spring season.)
