Penn State’s Chop Robinson wanted to go fast at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. Though Robinson didn’t reach his goal time in the 40-yard dash, Robinson easily was the fastest defensive end in testing Thursday.

Robinson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds, by far the lowest time among ends during combine testing in Indianapolis. The next fastest time was 4.57 seconds, by Colorado State’s Mohamed Kamara.

Robinson arrived in Indianapolis with a specific goal (“I definitely want to run a 4.4,”) he said Wednesday. Still, his time ranks tied for seventh all-time among defensive ends at the NFL Combine among defensive ends, according to NFL statistics. Alas, Robinson just missed his personal-best; he ran a 4.7 before his junior season at Penn State last year.

Robinson, Penn State’s all-America defensive end, tested well all-around. He tied for the longest broad jump (10 feet, 8 inches) and tied for 10th (with teammate Adisa Isaac) in the vertical jump (34-5). Isaac’s low time in the 40-yard dash was 4.74.

Robinson also delivered some notably consistent measurements to his Penn State days, which isn’t always the case. Robinson officially measured in at 6-3, 254 pounds Thursday, the same height/weight for which he was listed at Penn State late last season.

Robinson sought to prove more than his size and speed at the combine. He also wanted to demonstrate he can convert both into power.

“When you’re so explosive and you get off the ball, especially with a guy like me, a lot of [offensive] linemen wouldn’t be thinking about speed to power,” Robinson told reporters in Indianapolis. “So when they see me getting off the ball, they’re just assuming I’m trying to work the edge. So once they give me their chest, I’m going to stay low and put my power through their chest.”

Ten Penn State football players are in Indianapolis for the combine, which runs through March 3.
