not cheteshwar pujara or ajinkya rahane! ex-india a captain abhimanyu easwaran set to replace injured ruturaj gaikwad in test squad for two-match series against south africa – reports
India will face South Africa in a two-match Test series. The red-ball assignment will start with a Boxing Day Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion, and the second Test is scheduled to take place at the Newlands in Cape Town. India has never won a Test series in South Africa, and under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, the world No. 1 Test team would like to create history this time. Ahead of the start of the first Test, India suffered a big setback when it was revealed that star top-order batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the Test series.
Gaikwad, who is yet to make his Test debut for India, suffered a finger injury during the second ODI between India and South Africa, which was played at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha. He was ruled out of the third ODI in Paarl on December 21 due to that, and on Friday (December 22), Cricbuzz and many other publications reported that he would miss the Test series as well. The BCCI onfirmed the news on Saturday (December 23) via a tweet.
After Gaikwad was ruled out of the Test series, India included a former India A captain in the Test team as his replacement. Former India A captain Abhimanyu Easwaran, who plays for Bengal in domestic cricket and has experience of playing in 88 First-Class matches so far, was announced as Gaikwad’s replacement by the BCCI.
