Islamabad: Pakistan police and military recently took to social media to clarify on the videos suggesting a possible conflict between the two forces. Several social media users posted videos and claimed that Pakistani army brutally thrashed and beat Punjab police personnel in the Bahawalnagar area, reported Dawn.

The posts claimed that the dispute erupted over illegal weapons recovery from one of the family members of a soldier. “Is the military in Pakistan above the law?” one of the users said on X.

The purported videos showed police personnel being chased by some men, claimed to be army personnel who are running behind them.

One of the videos showed a man sitting on the ground with a blood on his nose while another showed a man and two army personnel forcing policemen to kneel in a queue, the report added.

However, Punjab police took to X and slammed the “fake propaganda”. “This matter in Bahawalnagar, which went viral on social media, has been taken out of context and exaggerated,” the police said in a statement on X.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said: “An unfortunate incident occurred in Bahawalnagar recently, which was promptly addressed and resolved through collaborative efforts of military and police authorities.” However, ISPR did not give any detail of the incident.

Punjab IG Clarifies On Incident

Punjab Inspector General (IG) Dr Usman Anwar posted a video message and said that the same is for the morale of the provincial police force which is the basis on which the forces took against terrorists and dacoits.

The IG said that an attempt was being made on social media to give the impression of a conflict between the army and the police regarding the Bahawalnagar incident.

“Immediate action was taken and the Bahawalpur regional police officer (RPO) and the local army command visited the area,” Dawn quoted him as saying.

The IG said that both institutions had initiated departmental action and a join inquiry has also been initiated into the matter.
