hobart post 6-167 against adelaide in crucial bbl clash

Tim David cut loose late as the Hurricanes posted 6-167 against the Adelaide Strikers in the BBL.

The Hobart Hurricanes have posted 6-167 on the back of some late hitting against the Adelaide Strikers in a Big Bash League clash crucial to the finals chances of both sides.

Adelaide spinner Cameron Boyce bowled a miserly 2-17 from four overs after the Strikers opted to field first at Blundstone Arena on Thursday night.

The Strikers are without Chris Lynn, who was ruled out with a hamstring twinge that could mean the end of his tournament.

Lynn, the competition’s second-highest run scorer this season, told Fox Cricket he was a slim chance to play Adelaide’s final regular season game on Sunday.

The big-hitter always planned to depart before the finals to play in the United Arab Emirates’ International League T20 competition.

Mac Wright top-scored for Hobart with 37 from 27 balls before he was undone by Boyce in the 13th over to a line-ball stumping call from the third umpire.

Tim David, who has struggled for runs, hit a 10-ball 22 to give the Hurricanes a boost late in the innings.

He launched Henry Thornton for back-to-back sixes in the 18th over before being caught on the boundary on the next ball.

The Hurricanes welcomed back Matthew Wade from back problems but the opener only managed 14 from 12 deliveries.

Hobart were slow out of the blocks, standing at 2-68 after 10 overs.

They are in sixth position on the BBL ladder on six competition points, two outside the top four, and need to win to keep their finals chances alive.

The Strikers are in virtually the same position, sitting fifth on seven competition points – one behind the Melbourne Stars in fourth.

The Strikers cruised to a five-wicket win over the Hurricanes in Adelaide on Tuesday.
