19-year-old converts parents' garage into flat for under £15,000
Hi, my name is Josh Jones and I live at a garage and this is how much it costs me to build it myself before we get started. This is how it looks before the whole transformation and this is how it looks now. Stay tuned to the end to hear the final price. Before I even got to tickle any tools I had to pay £850 for architectural fees and building control. The first year we found herself tackling was raising the garage roof. This cost me 1150 lbs. The Joyce will run front to back resting on his massive bean that had to be moved because it was too low down. So now the choice runs sideways and the beam is completely removed. The next job was cutting a hole in the middle wall of both garages. This didn’t cost me anything. It has given me the same cough as a 60 year old chain smoker. At this point of build I was feeling super, super optimistic. However, it’s time for drainage. The drainage materials cost me £450 and in my opinion was one of the hardest parts of the whole entire build. If I was feeling good before, I was feeling great now because the drainage was done. Now I’m going to the front. I sold the existing garage door from to pound profit. I bought a new front door for £100. I bought a new UPVC window for £20. All the timber brickwork, installation and boarding all come to a total of £400. So the total for the front was 470 LB. The step wall in timber cost me 240 lbs and the insulation was actually free for a friend of mine. Boom. The plumber was a nice surprise. It only cost me £750 for all of the 1st and 2nd fix. Before we went any further it was time to tackle the damaged boards from the roof leak. Five years ago. I look my hands went straight through it. This morning wasn’t the plan and it cost me £500 of figs. Next up to do the plasterboard in with 650 lbs and that was just materials alone. However, I did not do the plastering myself. I should get professional in and I’m so glad I did because it looks absolutely amazing. The plastering cost you 1350 LB.
