14 Norwegian films receive subsidies for lost ticket revenues during the pandemic

14 Norwegian films have received compensation for lost ticket revenues at the cinema during the Covid-19 period. Four of the films were allocated over NOK 1 million.

These will now receive compensation for 317,000 lost cinema tickets – a grand total of NOK ten million, the Norwegian Film Institute (NFI) stated.

Many Norwegian films that had their cinema premiere during the year of 2020 were hit very hard by the pandemic, with closed cinemas and strict restrictions on the number of audiences across the country.

The list includes ten fiction films and two documentaries with a premiere or planned premiere before October 1, 2020.

Four films receive more than 1 million kroner

They are: Dianas bryllup (NOK 1,640,080), Alle utlendinger har lukka gardiner (NOK 1,450,840), Knutsen & Ludvigsen 2 – Det Store Dyret (NOK 1,356,220) and Fjols til fjells (NOK 1.103.900).

The other films were: Knerten og sjøormen (NOK 914,660), Elleville Elfrid, (NOK914,660), Tottori – Sommeren vi var alene (NOK 567,720), iHuman (NOK 473,100), Alle må dø (NOK 410,020), Selvportrett (NOK 346,940), Torden (NOK 315,400), Flukten over grensen (NOK 283,860), Vi er her nå (NOK 126,160) and Bestefar er en Alien (NOK 94,620).

NFI director Kjersti Mo is happy to be able to help the producers who lost their audience and large ticket revenues due to the pandemic:

“Several Norwegian film producers have suffered large losses due to this, and we are pleased that through this compensation scheme we can contribute to reducing this loss.”

She said it’s important for NFI to do what they can to help companies survive and also create great Norwegian movies in the future.
