Belenenses musste wegen eines Corona-Ausbruchs im Team mit neun Spielern antreten. Nachdem es bereits zur Pause 7:0 für Benfica stand, wurde die Partie abgebrochen. Nun kommen neue Details ans Licht.

Auch in Portugal ist erstmals die neue Corona-Variante Omikron festgestellt worden. Das Virus sei bei 13 Spielern und anderen Mitgliedern des Erstliga-Fussballclubs Belenenses SAD festgestellt worden, teilte die Generalsekretärin der Gesundheitsbehörde, Graça Freitas, am Montag mit, wie die Zeitung «Público» berichtete.

Nur einer der Spieler sei kürzlich in Südafrika gewesen, wo die Variante zuerst entdeckt worden ist, teilte das Nationale Gesundheitsinstitut Ricardo Jorge am Montag mit. Das würde auf die erste bekannte Übertragung der neuen Variante ausserhalb Südafrikas hindeuten. Die Betroffenen sind derzeit isoliert und nicht schwer krank. Um eine Ausbreitung der neuen Virusvariante zu stoppen, hat die Gesundheitsbehörde in diesen Fällen strengere Quarantäneauflagen und weitere Tests angeordnet.

Das ganze hat einen ernsten Hintergrund: Am Samstagabend gab es ein Spiel, das Haris Seferovic nie mehr vergessen wird.

Mit Benfica spielte der Nati-Star gegen ein Team mit nur neun Spielern.

In der Mannschaft von Belenenses gab es einen Corona-Ausbruch.

Es waren keine Spieler mehr da. Im Mittelfeld agierte sogar der Ersatzgoalie.

Nach dem 7:0-Pausenstand forcierte Belenenses den Spielabbruch.

Sie hatten drei «Verletzte» und konnten nicht mehr sieben gesunde Spieler stellen.

Noch bevor bekannt wurde, dass es sich um Fälle von Omikron handelt, hatten besonders viele Corona-Fälle bei Belenenses am Samstag schon zu einem Riesen-Skandal geführt. Weil das Schlusslicht der Liga gegen den Stadtrivalen Benfica Lissabon kaum Spieler aufbieten konnte, war die Partie in der 50. Minute beim Stand von 0:7 abgebrochen worden. Der Schweizer Nati-Star Haris Seferovic schoss zwei Tore.

«Die Liga ist eine Schande»

Nach dem Spiel erklärte Belenenses-Präsident Rui Pedro Soares auf der Pressekonferenz, dass man die Liga am Nachmittag informiert habe und man angesichts der vielen Corona-bedingten Ausfälle nicht spielen wolle. Die Liga habe geantwortet, dass der Club mindestens acht Spieler habe, die hätten auflaufen können.

Bereits während der Partie waren die Fans im Stadion fassungslos und skandierten: «Die Liga ist eine Schande» und «Das Spiel ist eine Schande». Die Begegnung wird nun wohl mit 3:0 für Benfica gewertet werden. Warum Belenenses nicht um eine Spielverlegung bat, blieb zunächst unklar. Die Zeitung «Record» berichtet, dass der Belenenses-Boss zur Pause weinte.

Pandemie in Portugal noch nicht vorbei

Freitas wies eine Verantwortung der Gesundheitsbehörde bei der Genehmigung des Spiels zurück. Sie sprach sich dafür aus, alle Teilnehmer des Spiels beider Mannschaften testen zu lassen.

Die Portugiesen riefen sie auf, Massnahmen wie das Tragen einer Maske, das Lüften geschlossener Räume und die Reduzierung von Kontakten ausserhalb der eigenen Familie ernst zu nehmen. Die Pandemie sei trotz der hohen Impfquote in Portugal nicht vorbei.
