Doueihi relishes return to Tigers halves

Michael Maguire's NRL experiment with Adam Doueihi in the centres is over after the 22-year-old set up five tries against Brisbane in his return to the halves.

The Lebanon international has set up four tries since being shifted from five-eighth to the centres six weeks ago but he relished the switch back to his preferred position on Sunday.

Doueihi was clearly given permission to run against the Broncos and he caused havoc down their left side as he stripped apart the soft defence.

Maguire was coy when asked about the move following the 42-24 win on Sunday, in which he shifted Moses Mbye from five-eighth to the bench.

“Moses came on at nine and provided some great things for us, but Adam definitely, it's good to see him come back in,” Maguire said.

“He's been in the background working on his game as he does.

“Moses has done some great things in the halves for us as well.

“I made the change and it was good to see the boys jump back into that.”

The decision to move Doueihi to the centres came as a shock back in round 10 after he'd been the shining light for the side across the opening few months of the competition.

The passionate young utility is a presence with the ball but his combination with halfback Luke Brooks produced just two wins from the opening nine games of the year.

Sunday's victory snapped a three-game losing streak and was their sixth of the season, which remarkably puts the Tigers just two points out of the top eight.

“Adam obviously helped with some plays there, but that's off the back of the work the boys have been doing,” Maguire said.

“I was really proud of the players off the back of what we'e been going through the last month.

“We've had some ups and downs, it's been challenging times. To see the players the way they are at the moment we've got to take some belief out of that we did out there and take it forward.”
