NCAA leaders Letran, Perpetual Help collide

LETRAN and Perpetual Help collide in the NCAA Season 99 juniors basketball tournament on Friday, March 1, at the Filoil EcoOil Center in San Juan City.

The winner of this match will remain on top of the team standings while the loser will drop to number two.

Entering Friday’s game, the Squires and the Junior Altas carry similar 6-1 win-loss records and share the number one spot with the Mapua Red Robins.

Letran and Perpetual Help will clash at 10 a.m. while Mapua and the fourth-running San Sebastian (5-2) will square off at 2:30 p.m.

The Junior Altas are fresh from a 102-84 victory over the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers on Wednesday. They were led by Amiel Acido, the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) derby front-runner, who recorded a triple double of 17 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists.

Letran, on the other hand, outplayed Arellano University 106-85 last Wednesday.

The final playing day of the elimination round is on Sunday and the top two teams will enjoy the twice-to-beat advantage over the number four and three teams, respectively, in the semifinal round.

San Beda, currently in fifth place with a 4-3 record, is the only other team that has a chance of making the final four.

The Red Cubs will face the Light Bombers (2-5) at 8 a.m.
