The shoppe closed at the beginning of January and the owners hope to reopen sometime in the spring. The owners are focusing on modernizing the kitchen and equipment and restoring the cafe, such as reupholstering the booths and replicating the original lighting.
“Your support has been a key ingredient in out story,” said the owners. “We’re excited to introduce Civitello’s to many more generations to come and can’t wait to welcome you back to Schenectady’s favorite pastry shoppe soon.”

Civitello’s has been in business for over 100 years. The shoppe was founded in 1921 by Ralph Civitello in its current spot on North Jay Street. The shoppe serves Italian pastries, sandwiches, tomato pie, salads, and more.
“We hope to restore the pastry shoppe to its original glory, maintaining the timeless charm that has made it a treasured gathering spot,” said the owners.
