blake-snell
The New York Yankees are continuing their pursuit for Blake Snell.
Despite having a previous offer turned down, the Bronx Bombers are being persistent and have reportedly given the two-time Cy Young Award winner another offer, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB Network.
Feinsand stated that Snell “has an offer on the table” on the table from the Yankees, although no years or dollars were specified. The Yankees are now one of three teams who are currently bidding for Snell’s services; the others are the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants.
The 31-year-old southpaw won his second career Cy Young Award last season with the San Diego Padres, thanks to an MLB-best 2.25 ERA and 182 ERA+. Despite having control issues by issuing 99 walks (the most in the majors), Snell made up for this by striking out a career-best 234 batters, allowing only 5.8 hits per nine innings, and stranding 86.7% of runners on base.
There are concerns about Snell’s sustained form and durability, but not to the Yankees: pairing the lefty up with ace Gerrit Cole (the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner) would create one of the most devastating one-two punches in all of baseball.
The Yankees are going all-in for a World Series championship in 2024, and bringing in one of the best pitchers in baseball would certainly help their quest.
