Georgia assistant coach Bryan McClendon is expected to accept the wide receivers coach role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
McClendon has coached at Georgia for 13 seasons over two different stints. He started his career as a graduate assistant in 2007 and was promoted to running backs coach in 2009. He also served as the interim head coach after Mark Richt’s departure, leading the Bulldogs to a win in the TaxSlayer Bowl.
He spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator at South Carolina. McClendon accepted a role as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach under Mario Cristobal at Oregon for two seasons (2020-21). He was named the interim head coach after Cristobal departed for Miami, which the Hurricanes lost to Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl.
McClendon played wide receiver for the Bulldogs from 2002-05. He was part of the winningest class in school history, until the most recent 2022 class. He played one season in the NFL with the Chicago Bears.
