Watch: Australia’s Alana King involved in bizarre sequence of no-ball, six and hit wicket in same delivery

In what was arguably a one-of-a-kind event seen on a cricket pitch, Australia’s Alana King was involved in a bizarre sequence of events, involving a no-ball, a six and a hit-wicket, all on the same delivery.

In the third ODI between Australia and South Africa women’s teams, the leg-spinner got a full toss — well above her waist — which the right-hander slogged over the deep square leg boundary, but in the process also disturbed her stumps.

Watch:

This took place when King was taking on Masabata Klaas in the 48th over of Australia’s innings. On the fifth delivery, Klaas bowled a high full-toss, which King hit over deep square-leg boundary but could not control her swivel and lost her footing to smash the stumps with her bat.

Despite all this, Kings survived since the umpires deemed the delivery a no-ball and adding insult to injury, King smashed the next ball from Klaas for another six. However, she was eventually dismissed by the bowler on the first ball of the 50th over.

As far as the match is concerned, Australia ended with a competitive total of 277 for 9 in their 50 overs. Beth Mooney was among the runs and stayed unbeaten with 82 runs off 91 balls, including 10 fours. Captain Alyssa Healy, too, chipped in with a handy 60 runs innings.

South Africa’s Klaas was the pick of the bowlers as she finished with 4 wickets for 56 runs from 9 overs. Tahlia McGrath provided the late boost for the hosts as she smashed 44 off 35 balls to push the total to an above-par score on the surface.

King would later star with the ball, the leg-spinner finishing with 4/26 as South Africa were bundled out for a paltry 127 after being set a revised target of 238 in 31 overs. King was ably supported by pacers Kim Garth (3/14) and Tahlia McGrath (3/23), both of whom collected three wickets each.

South Africa won their maiden ODI match against Australia by 84 runs (DLS method) in the second ODI after Australia won the first match by eight wickets. Before the ODIs, the home team had already bagged the T20Is series 2-1.

Both these sides will also take on one another in a one-off Test match after the ODI series.
