A hotel and restaurant in Bishop Auckland is celebrating its first birthday after hosting 10,000 guests in its 365 days.

The Park Head Hotel opened on February 1 last year after the former 18th century coaching lodge was given a two-year refurb to transform it into a modern 38-room hotel.

The revamp also included the opening of the Oak Room Restaurant.

General manager Andrew Hogg said: “All the team is thrilled with how locals and visitors from further afield have responded to the hotel and restaurant.

“We see guests using Park Head Hotel as a base to explore the county, professionals returning for overnight stays, and locals enjoying the restaurant for a catch up or special occasion with loved ones.”

The hotel has launched new offers as part of the birthday celebrations including £10 dishes from 5pm to 6pm on weekdays and a new ‘winter getaway’ £79 room rate including breakfast and a bottle of bubbly.

“The hospitality industry is extremely competitive and took a battering during the pandemic”, says Andrew.

“So, we feel extremely thankful to be thriving and growing, especially as interest builds in Bishop Auckland as a tourism hotspot and locals immerse themselves in the attractions The Auckland Project unveils.”

The hotel and restaurant are owned and managed by the Auckland Project, which is behind a host of regeneration projects across the County Durham town.
