AAP alleges Bansuri Swaraj defended ‘anti-national forces’ in court, she reacts
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said on Sunday said that Bansuri Swaraj, the BJP’s candidate for Lok Sabha from New Delhi, should apologise for representing “anti-national forces” in court. Hitting back, Swaraj questioned the AAP on its choice of candidate and claimed that the candidate was beaten up by his own cadre in Rajendra Nagar.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Delhi Minister Atishi said, “Bansuri has repeatedly defended fugitive Lalit Modi in court, who has fled the country after embezzling several crores of rupees. She had consistently defended Lalit from the lower courts to the Supreme Court from 2012 to 2014 in the case of his passport.”
“He fled with his passport before the division bench’s order came and has not returned. Lalit Modi had also thanked Bansuri Swaraj via a tweet for fighting his case,” she said.
Atishi also alleged that Bansuri stood with the Centre in the Supreme Court when two women were stripped and paraded during the Manipur violence.
“Today, she will go to women in New Delhi and ask them for votes,” she added.
Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj, will be contesting Lok Sabha polls from the New Delhi seat on a BJP ticket. She will be replacing Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi for the seat.
AAP on Sunday demanded that the BJP should replace Bansuri as the candidate from the New Delhi constituency.
Atishi also alleged that Bansuri defended the ‘fake mayor’ of Chandigarh in the Supreme Court.
“When the Chandigarh mayoral elections were held and there was an attempt at vote theft, and the Chief Justice of India called it a murder of democracy, Swaraj stood for the fake mayor from the BJP in the Supreme Court,” she said.
Similarly, Somnath Bharti, the INDIA bloc candidate for Lok Sabha from New Delhi, also demanded that Bansuri Swaraj and the BJP should “apologise for such a blunder”.
Bansuri Swaraj hit back at the AAP and asked why the party chose to field a candidate who was allegedly beaten up by his own cadre in Rajinder Nagar on Saturday.
“They have named a candidate who is not liked by his own party members. They can put allegations against us, but people will give them a reply in the elections,” she said.
