Jessica Hanna, a Catholic mother of four and a pro-life advocate, died on Saturday, April 6, her family announced. Many on social media remembered Hanna, a woman who chose to forgo cancer treatments for the sake of her unborn child. Hanna’s husband shared the news of her passing on her Instagram account – @blessed_by_cancer.
Lamar wrote that Jessica ‘went to her eternal reward’. He added that Hanna was surrounded by her family when she breathed her last.
“At 8:02 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, my beautiful bride Jessica peacefully went to her eternal reward. She received extreme unction and the apostolic pardon from Father Canon Sharpe [on] Thursday. On Saturday she was very peaceful, and surrounded by her loving family, she breathed her last. The cancer was just too aggressive. She suffered joyfully and without fear in her last days. Please keep our family in your prayers,” her husband said in a post.

Who was Jessica Hanna?
Hanna was a popular pro-life advocate. She joined the ‘EWTN Pro-Life Weekly’ in 2022, where she shared her experience. She had received her breast cancer diagnosis when she was 14 weeks pregnant with her youngest son, Thomas. Several doctors advised her to have an abortion, but she declined.
Jessica Hanna underwent surgery and was told the tumor was 13 centimeters and cancer was found in 43 lymph nodes in the area. Doctors could not scan the rest of her body because of her pregnancy.

Jessica has been described as a ‘devout Catholic’. She had a special devotion to Blessed Father Solanus Casey. During her pregnancy – after the cancer diagnosis – she prayed at Casey’s Detroit-area tomb.
She eventually gave birth. Scans showed no signs of cancer spread to any other organs. However, in 2022, the cancer returned, this time as stage 4. She shared her journey via social media.
“I thought no suffering should ever go to waste,” Hanna told “EWTN Pro-Life Weekly. “I don’t know where God is taking me. Is he going to take me to the path where I need to show people how to die gracefully, with his grace and mercy? Or is he going to show a miracle?”
